U.S. Election

Today is the Election Day in the USA. This however is in spite of over 97 million votes (35.5m in person and 62.1m by mail) already cast for this year’s elections. The early votes already account for two-thirds of the total votes cast in the 2016 elections pointing towards a record voter turnout. Trump has however repeatedly threatened legal action regarding the legitimacy of mail-in balloting. Both candidates are vying for the 270 (minimum) electoral college votes needed to win what has been termed the most keenly contested election in recent times. Various topics such as the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing racial divide and the economy are likely front burners on the mind of voters.

In usual practice several polls are conducted to predict the likely winner of the elections. Our infographics today examine polling data by The Financial Times as at Nov 2, 2020. Also included in this post are the voting results for the last 5 elections (from 2000 till 2016). This gives a bit of perspective/ history to the polls and likely swing states. It is pertinent to note that the polls by The Financial Times in our post are merely projections and not actual results.

Do you agree with the polls or do you foresee a repeat of 2016? Let’s know what you think in the comment section 👇🏿
